I recently embarked on a unique adventure to The Met Cloisters, but my journey began long before I stepped foot inside the medieval haven of art and history. What set this visit apart was the path that led me there and the breathtaking view of the Hudson River that accompanied me along the way. As a sporty person, I relish every opportunity to combine physical activity with cultural exploration, and this visit was no exception.
A Scenic Route to The Met Cloisters
The Met Cloisters is located on a hilltop overlooking the Hudson River, and it feels like a world away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation as I made my way to The Met Cloisters. The beauty of this journey is that it's not just about the destination; it's about the path you take to get there.
The trek from the train station to The Cloisters is a delightful experience in itself. I chose to take a leisurely walk, and it was well worth it. As I strolled through the way, I couldn't help but notice the vibrant colors of autumn all around me. The path was lined with trees, their leaves aflame with shades of red, orange, and gold. This was a perfect opportunity for someone like me, who loves staying active, to stretch my legs and immerse myself in the wonders of nature.
The Hudson River Viewpoint
One of the most delightful surprises along the way was the breathtaking viewpoint overlooking the Hudson River. As I approached the overlook, I was treated to a panoramic view of the river shimmering in the sunlight. It was a picturesque moment that invited me to pause, take a deep breath, and appreciate the natural beauty that exists in the heart of a bustling metropolis.
I couldn't resist capturing this awe-inspiring moment with my camera. The combination of the Hudson River, the lush greenery of the park, and the Manhattan skyline in the distance created a picture-perfect scene. It was an ideal spot for a quick break and some light stretching, especially for a sporty blogger like me.
Exploring The Met Cloisters
After taking in the stunning view, I continued my journey to The Met Cloisters. The contrast between the modernity of New York City and the timeless beauty of the museum was striking. The medieval architecture and serene cloisters welcomed me, and I was ready to explore the treasures of the past.
Inside The Cloisters, I found myself captivated by the same remarkable medieval art and artifacts that have drawn visitors for years. The Unicorn Tapestries, the Bonnefont Cloister Herb Garden, and the magnificent architecture were all delightful to experience. It was a perfect blend of history, culture, and exercise.
Highlights of The Met Cloisters
The Unicorn Tapestries:
The Unicorn Tapestries, a series of seven exquisite tapestries, were a true highlight of my visit. The intricate details and vibrant colors of these tapestries, which tell the story of the unicorn hunt, left me in awe.
The Bonnefont Cloister Herb Garden:
As a person who enjoys spending time outdoors, I couldn't help but be enchanted by the Bonnefont Cloister Herb Garden. It's a lush, serene space filled with herbs and plants that would have been used for medicinal and culinary purposes in the Middle Ages. It was a sensory delight, and I took my time exploring this fragrant oasis.
The Cloisters' Architecture:
The Cloisters' architecture is a work of art in itself. The Romanesque and Gothic styles, along with the beautiful courtyards and gardens, make for a peaceful and contemplative setting. I found myself sitting in the gardens, enjoying the serene ambiance and listening to the birds chirping.
A Unique Adventure Awaits
I'm always up for an adventure, but sometimes, it's nice to slow down and appreciate the artistry and history that have shaped our world. It was a refreshing change of pace, to appreciate the craftsmanship, creativity, and resilience of the human spirit.
